About me

Greetings all, my name is Roy Murray. I walk a lot and I like to record my impressions of those walks.

Give me a long winding road with a grass strip in the middle, a slow pace, fresh air and I’m in my element. Living in the Ancient East of Ireland means that wherever I go, I am never too far away from something historical. Castles, abbeys, churches and monuments are usually within sight on my slow moving journey. While they have an epic quality to them what really fascinates me is the agricultural landscape developed by everyday people in the past. The fields and hedgerows I walk by hold stories of gradual transformation. The folklore of nearly every patch of green in this part of the world is recorded and available.

Walking these roads allows me to unpack the landscape around every bend in the road. It’s not just countryside though. I’ll just as happily ramble through museums, bookshops and the city streets of Europe. If there is culture to be had, I like to check it out.
